Introducing the 2012 National Specialty Junior Showmanship "Hands-On" Seminar

On Tuesday, 18 September, 2012 at 12:30 at the Washington County Fair Park CDR Ron Stinson, USN, will host a 45 minute hands-on seminar on Junior Showmanship that will cover;

  • getting started
  • handling skills
  • personal preparation
  • dog preparation
  • and the importance of sportsmanship.

This event will be free and is open to any interested junior handler under the age of 18. Personal dogs are encouraged.

The goal of our seminar is to:

  1. Develop their handling skills
  2. Learn about good sportsmanship
  3. Learn about dogs and dog shows

The 2012 OESCA National Specialty Presents:
The ABC's of Dog Breeding by Claudia Waller Orlandi, PhD

This is a two part seminar that takes a practical, step-by-step-approach to the art and science of breeding. This seminar will outline the 7 key breeding tools and concepts, which include:

  1. genetics
  2. breeding systems
  3. pedigree
  4. selection
  5. anatomy
  6. kennel blindness
  7. genetic defects.

In addition to discussing the basic rules of heredity, the ABC's of Dog Breeding will addresses many of the common misconceptions that have been handed down from dog breeder to dog breeder. Whether you are a novice or a very experienced breeder, you will leave this seminar with new information and tools you can apply immediately.

SEMINAR - INFORMATION

The seminar will be offered in two separate sessions and is open to all OESCA (Old English Sheepdog Club of America) and non-OESCA members. Attendees have the option of attending both session 1 & 2 or may select to attend only one.

Session 1: Canine Genetics and Breeding – Claudia Orlandi, PhD

  • Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 (1:30 – 5.00 p.m.)
  • $35 for Non-OESCA Member
  • $30 for an OESCA Member

Session 2: Canine Anatomy & Hands-on Workshop, Claudia Orlandi, PhD

  • Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012 (6:00– 8:30 p.m.)

Both Session 1 & 2:

Session(s) include Seminar, 470 page "ABC's of Dog Breeding" Book by Claudia Orlandi PhD, snacks & beverages.

If you are attending both seminars, a pre-order box meal from Jimmy Johns (Sandwich of your choice, chips, pickle, cookie & beverage) is available for $13. There are also several local restaurants in the area.

Attendees who complete the ABC's of Dog Breeding workbook and send to AKC will receive a Certificate of Completion
